Riva Grinshpan Roundtable: Canadian Collaboration in Support of Global Children’s Health
The Sandbox Project and Save a Child’s Heart are pleased to co-present the inaugural Riva Grinshpan Roundtable, a cross-disciplinary event dedicated to sharing knowledge and promoting partnerships to support children’s health in the developing world.
Held at the 10th annual Sandbox Summit, this breakfast session will feature an expert panel on the topic of Canadian Collaboration in Support of Global Children’s Health. Panelists will discuss the importance of partnerships and share their promising practices for successful Canadian collaboration, both at home and in the communities that we serve.

Onome Ako
Executive Director, Amref Health Africa in Canada
Onome Ako was appointed Executive Director of Amref Health Africa in Canada by the Board of Directors in June 2019. Onome joined the organization in October 2014 in the role of Director of Strategic Partnerships.
Prior to joining Amref Health Africa, Onome worked with World Vision Canada for six years in different capacities more recently as Business Development Manager and Manager Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs-Extractive Industries. Her work allowed her to work in countries including Peru, Senegal, Mozambique, Madagascar, Sierra Leone, Mexico, South Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Mongolia where she developed strategies, tools and programs in consultation with stakeholders such as the community, government bodies, extractive industry and other civil society to ensure that the development impact of natural resources can be harnessed.
Between 2008 and 2011, Onome managed programs in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh under the Humanitarian Emergency Affairs (HEA) department where she helped develop approaches that ensured communities made the transition from an emergency to a development context.
Prior to moving to Canada in 2008 Onome worked as the Communications and Outreach Manager for AfricaRecruit, a joint program of the NEPAD and Commonwealth Secretariat that seeks to mobilize skills and human resources for capacity-building in Africa. Before joining AfricaRecruit, Onome worked at the Senegal office of UNDP-UNESCO joint project on the Foundations for Africa’s Future Leadership where she helped develop the Diaspora component of the project. Onome is an associate of the Nigerian Leadership Initiative a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network a community of entrepreneurial leaders from business, government and the non-profit sector that provides a platform for highly accomplished and uniquely qualified Nigerian leaders to enhance or develop their value-based leadership skills and assume a transformative role on the future development of Nigeria.
Onome is a mentor with the Creative Institute for Toronto Young (CITY) Leaders, United Way where she supports the growth of young leaders to achieving their professional and personal goals. Onome holds an MSc in Management of NGOs and Social Policy and Participation in Developing Countries from the London School of Economics, United Kingdom.
